The families of hundreds of freedom fighters in Haryana do not even know that their ancestors had ever fought for freedom and shed their blood. The names of 450 such knights of Haryana have come out who were soldiers of Azad Hind Fauj. The records of all these have been sent to the Haryana Freedom Fighter Samman Committee, subordinate to the state government, so that the information could be sent to their families.
Many people of Haryana only know that their ancestors were once part of the British Army. The British forces sent them on various fronts and after that they never returned. They are unaware that their ancestors became soldiers of the Azad Hind Fauj to revolt against the British on the call of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose and leave the British Army to liberate their country.
The Officers of Azad Hind Fauj kept the record of every soldier
The officers of Bose’s Azad Hind Fauj named their various regiments according to their territories. They kept a record of every soldier of this regiment. This record of soldiers was part of the confidential documents of Subhash Chandra Bose. For several decades after independence, the government kept these documents confidential.
Now all the documents of Bose have become public, so the records of all Bose soldiers are also public with the National Archives Department. For the past seven years, Sri Bhagwan Fougat (now living in Rewari), a native of Dani Phogat, a village in Charkhidadari, has been digging. Shri Bhagwan’s father Shri Ram Singh Faugat was also an anonymous soldier of Azad Hind Fauj, who was identified by Sree Bhagwan after a long struggle.
The British had declared these soldiers as rebels
Shri Bhagwan Fougat said that he kept going to Army Building, Ministry of Defense and Home Affairs and National Archives Department several times regarding his father’s record. At the same time, he saw that there are many soldiers of Azad Hind Fauj related to Haryana who are anonymous till date and their names are buried in the files. The soldiers of the British army rebelled and went into the Azad Hind Army. The British considered them a rebel.
Many of the soldiers who rebelled against the British returned after the end of the Azad Hind Fauj, but many were martyred while fighting the British on various fronts.
According to him, till now he has found the record of 450 anonymous soldiers and names sent to Haryana Freedom Fighter Samman Samiti through District Deputy Commissioner Rewari.
He has demanded Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal to name these anonymous soldiers through their respective District Deputy Commissioners and also provide pension facilities to the dependents of these freedom fighters.
